Patrimoine architectural et naturel de Chauray
Old Chauray retains its original simplicity, with a remarkable heritage that reflects the town's tumultuous 17th-century Protestant past (see the Temple next to a lovely Romanesque church). The 3.7 km Bords de Sèvre circuit, reserved for walkers (pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, geocachers, V94 cycle route), offers a shady, pastoral setting: 7 ha of meadows have been converted into paths, and small heritage sites have been showcased (medieval bridge, the Sablière washhouse, the Chemin Vieux, mini deer park).
A rural village in the past, situated on a hilltop overlooking the Sèvre Niortaise and close to the A10 and A83 motorways, the commune is home to major national brands such as Mutuelles d?assurances and has become the second-largest economic hub in the Niort Chauray conurbation.
