Getaway in the vines and the skies

For my birthday, Sylvie gave me a surprise gift… Our day started with a vineyard visit at the Le Clos des Motèles in Sainte-Verge, a family business not far from Thouars, on the edge of the Anjou region. From the vine to the barrels, we found out about the whole process of vinification with the Thouars wines and enjoyed a tasting at the end of the visit. For lunch, we chose the Au Plaisir des Gourmets where we had an elegant, homemade meal in an intimate setting. To aid our digestion, we took a refreshing walk through the medieval town labelled Ville d’Art et d’Histoire®, as far as the banks of the Thouet. This afternoon, we would be reaching for the skies… So, the surprise gift was an introduction to flight. The landscapes and monuments along the meandering Thouet take on a new dimension, when seen from the air. A unique moment, out of the ordinary, and an unforgettable birthday.
