1ST DAY | Real château life !

To get away from the rat race, we needed a break in the peaceful countryside. Two days to recharge our batteries and wind down. We started with a guided tour of the château de Coulonges-sur-l’Autize : a Renaissance delight that deserves to be better known because of its cellars and vaulted kitchens. For lunch, we enjoyed an excellent meal in the restaurant La Terrasse de l’Autize in Ardin : : a warm welcome and delicious food. It was the perfect preparation for a round of golf at the Château du Petit Chêne in Mazières-en-Gâtine: 18 good holes in a magnificent wooded setting. We set our sights on the château du Pont Jarno for our accommodation. Full of charm and with bedrooms that are as spacious as they are comfortable, magnificent parkland and swimming pool, and very attentive hosts… To sum up, a romantic break, and real château life.

Day 01

2ND DAY | The Niort keep !

Not far from the château du Pont Jarno, we visited the Commanderie des Antonins, the collegiate church of Saint-Marc-la-Lande, and its conservatory orchard with medicinal plants, and the Val de Flore garden, a little further in Soutiers. After these calm, countryside activities, we headed for Niort, at the edge of the Marais Poitevin, a really pretty town where you can stroll along the pedestrian streets and along the banks of the Sèvre. Some friends had recommended the Restaurant L’Adress in Bessines for lunch, and we were pleased they had! To finish off our visit to the town, we ambled through Niort’s old town and visited its iconic monument : le Donjon, or keep. With the ethnographic collections, the testimonies engraved in the stone by the builders and prisoners, and the panoramic terrace, we really liked this monument. A quick selfie for Instagram at the top with the whole town as the backdrop !
