Mauléon, Petite Cité de Caractère®
From the castral city to the city of leather, we discover the city of Mauléon in the heart of the bocage, in many different ways. Mauléon has preserved this particular urban structure inherited from the Middle Ages, where the remains of the ramparts can still be seen.
The city developed from the 11th century on a barred spur relief and stretched between the castle located on the promontory and the abbey built along the crest. The city later encompassed the suburbs along the Ouin valley, including that of Saint-Jouin, the tanners' district, which was lively from the 12th century.
It is from the Château-Gaillard site that you can enjoy a panoramic view.
You will find in this Small City of Character® and in the surrounding area many heritage and tourist sites, including the Puy du fou 15 minutes away. To discover the town, do not hesitate to visit the application.
