Les vignes du bourg Joly
Situated on the Puy de Mont hill in Saint Martin de Sanzay, at the gateway to Puy Notre Dame, the soil of the Bourg Joly vineyards is made up of fluvial clay-limestone deposits with siliceous gravel on a Cenomanian marl base. The Château?s 1st wines date back to at least 1560. The exceptional semi-buried cellar was built in 1836 using a remarkable combination of tuffeau and hard stone; its dimensions suggest a vineyard of 40ha, i.e. the surface area of the hill. The château?s winegrowing activity was restored in 2019 around the existing buildings. The heritage buildings house the winemaking, ageing and sales facilities, adapted to modern hygiene and logistics techniques while preserving the authenticity and traditions of the past. The entire estate is in conversion to organic farming and has been organic since January 1, 2022.
