L’ÉGLISE NOTRE-DAME

  • EGLISE NOTRE DAME MENIGOUTE

The present-day parish church of Notre-Dame was a collegiate church until 1791. Around 1320, Jean de Cherchemont, chancellor to the King of France and a native of the commune, founded a college of canons and built the church, which was then dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Today, only the walls remain from the 14th century, as the building was burnt down in 1568 during the Wars of Religion, then rebuilt. In 1902, a new bell tower-porch with a slate spire was built in front of the old façade.
Inside the church, the choir contains beautiful 17th-century stalls once used by the canons.
