Le Puits d'Enfer

On the outskirts of Saint-Maixent-l'Ecole, this steep site is listed for its landscape and environmental qualities, but also for its picturesque and legendary character. There is a remarkable flora in the woodlands of the rocky outcrops. A path leads into the heart of nature, along a stream and its waterfall. Legend has it that a farmer who crossed the tumultuous waters with his cart was swept away and disappeared forever in the "Well of Hell".
