The church of Pamproux, probably built at the beginning of the 12th century, replaced the earlier church of which we know nothing except that it was founded in honour of Saint-Maixent and granted to a member of the abbey of Saint-Maixent.
From the Romanesque period, the church has only preserved its bell tower and a few remains of round-headed openings visible on the outside of the north elevation of the nave.
It consists of a single five-bay nave
