Eglise Saint-Etienne-du-Port
Originally, the parish was made up of workers, market gardeners and gardeners wearing the name of "Portuguese" in reference to the Port district they inhabit. The church, the first one in France free from any tutelage of the State, is built at the end of the XIXth century.-beginning of XXè s. by Alcide Boutaud, architect of Poitiers who made beautiful, large and cheap (economic materials and no exterior ornaments). Missing money, initiatives are undertaken (charity sales, concerts, parties, etc.). In the "pure ogival style of the thirteenth century", it is a pastiche of 3 influences: Romanesque (chapels), Gothic (nave) and Mozarabic (triforium - inner gallery and ciborium - column canopy). Why does it bear the patronage of Saint Stephen? In memory of the former priory of the same name founded here in the twelfth century.
