Ecluse à sas de Comporté (Niort)

Built in 1862, this navigation structure, still in working order, allows the boats to cross the difference in altitude between the Comporté and La Roussille reach. Since mid-May 2020, its renovation (restoration of masonry structures, replacement of metal doors and footbridges, review of mechanisms) has been carried out by the Instituto interdépartementale du bassin de la Sèvre niortaise (IIBSN), in charge of the river public domain. This operation is part of the project to develop tourist navigation between Niort and Marans. It follows the restoration of the locks of La Tiffardière and La Roussille in 2018.

Many breeding birds, including herons, enjoy the wooded surroundings of Comporté Lock.
