Argentonnay

Located on a rocky outcrop overlooking the confluence of the Argenton and the Ouère, Argenton-Les-Vallées is the historic entrance gate of the bocage on the Anjou road. At the end of the XVth century, Philippe de Commynes, Seneschal of Poitou and chamberlain of King Louis XI, became by marriage Lord of Argenton.
This was the beginning of a flourishing period for Argenton and neighboring parishes. Strongly marked by the wars of the Vendée, the town retains the church of Saint-Gilles, the fondations of the medieval castle and the Cadoré bridge (XIIIth century).
